Guidelines

  • Requests cannot be more than $5,000
  • Smaller requests under $500 are encouraged and given priority.

Eligibility

  • Ahtna specifically supports non-profit organizations in the Ahtna region that address quality of life issues, culture, environmental stewardship, safety, and education.
  • All requests are reviewed by the Ahtna Philanthropy Committee and must be in writing. Requesters are encouraged to incorporate the Ahtna Corporate Values of Respect, Unity, Safety, Quality, and Integrity and explain how funding adheres to those values.

Requirements

  • Request shall be no more than two pages and include:
    • Name, address, phone number and email of individual submitting request;
      1. Organization’s tax ID number;
      2. Description and brief history of the organization, including its core values and philosophy;
      3. Population the organization serves (if applicable);
      4. Purpose behind the request (e.g. what the funds will be used for, are additional funding sources being sought, any in-kind contributions);
      5. If the request is for a long-term project, details must be included explaining the length of the project, stages for completion, and operations and maintenance funding (if applicable);
      6. Shareholders involved with the organization and who will benefit from the request; and
      7. How success will be measured and reported back to Ahtna if funding is granted.
    • If a request is funded, the entity receiving the request must sign a release and waiver, permitting Ahtna to advertise the donation request as well as document the donation through photography or other means and publish the documentation (e.g., publish photographs in the Ahtna Kanas newsletter).

Ahtna Does Not Fund

  • Requests over $5,000;
  • Requests from individuals or families;
  • Political organizations or activities;
  • Organizations located outside the State of Alaska or that do not have an Alaska-based chapter;
  • Endowment requests, but for those exemptions approved by the Board of Directors; and
  • Any other requests that are determined by the Philanthropy Committee not to comply with the Philanthropy and Giving Policy or are in conflict with Ahtna Inc.’s vision and corporate values.

Review Process

  • Quarterly submission deadlines are March 31, June 30, September 30 and December 31. If any of the deadlines fall on a weekend, the deadline shall be the Friday prior to that date.
  • The decision of the Philanthropy Committee is final and cannot be appealed. All requests which were selected for review by the Philanthropy Committee will be answered in writing, whether or not they are selected for funding.
